Dog agility is a fun sport in which handers run their dogs around an obstacle course as fast as they can go. The courses are designed by the judge and are different at every trial. After an 8 minute period in which the handlers can walk and learn the course, each handler/dog team has their chance to run it.

AKC agility has four levels of competition: Novice, Open, Excellent and Masters. At each level the courses get harder, the course times get shorter and the number of faults allowed in order earn a qualifying run (a “Q”) decreases.

There are four AKC agility games.

• “Standard” consists of all the AKC agility obstacles (various types of jumps, open tunnels, chute, weave poles, aframe, dog walk, teeter and pause table).
• “JWW” (Jumpers with Weaves) consists of jumps and weaves and sometimes a tunnel.
• “FAST” (Fifteen And Send Time) is a gamblers choice type of game where the obstacles are pointed and the handers make up a course that must include a designated sequence of obstacles handled from behind a distance line.
• “T2B” (Time to Beat) is an all-out race over a speed course. The fastest dog wins the class and 10 points; all pother dogs that complete the course earn points based on how close they come to the winner’s time.

In addition to the AKC competition, we will be offering “Glory Runs” – a special attraction designed to give retired or disabled agility dogs one more time in the ring. We’ll be breaking the trial around 9 am to cheer for these special dogs as they have a chance to play this fun game they love so much.

The trial opens Tuesday, April 16th 8 AM and closes Tuesday, May 14th at 6 PM.

Directions to East Freehold Park:

From North: GSP (Garden State Pkwy) South to Route 9, South on Route 9 towards Freehold. Take exit for Route 18 South (left exit). Follow Route 18 South to exit for Route 537 West (towards Freehold). Before second light on Route 537 West, follow sign bearing to the right jug handle in order to make a left on Kozloski Rd. Show site is approximately 0.5 miles on the right.

From Northeast: Route 537 West To Kozloski Road. Before Kozloski, follow sign bearing to the right jug handle in order to make a left on Kozloski Rd. Show site is approximately 0.5 miles on the right.

From East: Take Route 33 West to Kozloski (Gas Station at Intersection). Right on Kozloski. Follow to site on left approximately 0.6 miles to site. If exiting GSP at NJ-33 heading W towards Freehold you can: 1. Bear right onto Business 33 past the intersection with Fairfield Road and then follow direction above or 2. Take Highway 33 and exit northbound onto Halls Mill Rd, which changes name to Kozloski Rd at the Howell/ Freehold border and then follow directions above.

From West: Take Route 33 East (4 lane, NJ Turnpike Exit 8) to Halls Mill Rd Exit (This is past the Route 33, Route 537 and Route 9 exits). Take Halls Mill Rd. North (it turns into Kozloski) to site on left.
